Wendy Wrenn Werstlein left a career in science education to pursue a passion for ceramics and studio pottery. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte; she taught in Charlotte, NC for 10 years after graduation. Switching her role from teacher to student, she completed the Professional Crafts program at Haywood Community College in North Carolina, followed by a two year apprenticeship with 16 Hands member Silvie Granatelli in Floyd. Wendy continues to live and work in Floyd, bringing her love of learning and growth into her studio and gallery space right off the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I am affected by the flow and line patterns in nature and I explore these patterns and forms in my pots. I seek to communicate through my work a sense of movement and ease. As a social species we communicate through touch, visual expressions, and body language – all these voices are present in handmade objects .  My pottery is made of porcelain clay and is fired in an electric kiln to cone 10.  All pots are safe for microwave, dishwasher and oven.
